The Bristol Stool Scale was brought to my attention as a joke recently. It’s a real poop scale! After Dr. Oz and Oprah got everyone to look at their poops, maybe this is no big deal. I think it is just a little weird though. Having said that, I am going to come out of the closet and say mine are usually 3-4. I see a lot of people with abdominal pain in the urgent care, whose pains ends up being that they are just constipated. I often hear from patients they only go once every 2-3 days. A few have said once a week! At least once daily is normal—just for the record.
You’ve heard “you are what you eat” and I guess if you eat crap for food (sugar, lots of meat, lots processed foods, etc) well….. then you are “full of it” so to speak. Even if you don’t change the junk, just eating a bowl of granola with a handful of blueberries for breakfast every day will help. I know there are a lot of people who would just as soon not change what they eat at all,—- and buy more Metamucil, Benefiber, Citrocel, etc….. old habits die-hard, (and usually sooner.) Just drinking more water instead of high-fructose corn syrup drinks would be very helpful.
Often times, our poop issues are related to a larger problem, our overall well-being, our core issues. Treating the whole person with a matching homeopathic remedy not only helps these issues, but brings the whole being back into balance, and normalizes the physical body functions as well.
So take a look next time, what your number?
